Take Care of Maya - Producer

During the four-year Netflix production, I went from finding the story behind ‘Take Care of Maya’, to diving into complicated reporting and research, to preparing an extensive deck and sizzle reel for the pitch. I led the project from conception to sale, and through post-production and release. I was the lead producer, managed a large team for three years, held brainstorming sessions, mentored junior producers and interns, and always pushed our creative thinking outside the box. This position was equally creative and managerial.

I took on numerous responsibilities including, but not limited to, producing video shoots, managing the budget, finding subjects and conducting interviews, and overseeing all archival and music licensing. In addition, I collaborated daily with executives at the production company and network executives at Netflix to work on the vision of the film, while implementing their notes and ensuring journalist integrity. Throughout the entire process, I also worked hand in hand with legal, and personally fact-checked the entire film at ten different stages.

When the film was getting ready for release, I worked to secure an exclusive for the main subject, Maya Kowalski, to be the cover of People magazine. This was their only human-interest cover in a decade. I also worked very closely with the PR and marketing team at Netflix to secure other press opportunities around the world.

In 2023, the film premiered at The Tribeca Film Festival in competition, and was released on Netflix. It was on the Top 10 movies for many weeks, and is still trending.
